The forest and its many resources
Within the Percorso delle Calcare that starts in the centre of the hamlet of Vitarolo, one comes across the Labioli demonstration island. In this evocative space surrounded by woodland, the artefacts of that ‘material culture’ of using resources, in the activities of tradition and the encounter with nature come to life again. You can visit the charcoal burner’s shelter with the demonstration charcoal pits next to it, the woodman’s hut with the biode and the fogolaro, the calcara and along the path, at the edge of the forest, the basins dug into the rock where water was collected for drinking called labioli.
