Do you want an experience or a simple holiday?

Today I want to share this reflection of mine with you.

When I think of all the holidays I have taken in my life (I am over 50 and I like to travel so I have some experience…) my mind inexorably goes back to photographing the moments I experienced. When I think, for example, of a holiday in Sicily more than 10 years ago, I remember with great intensity details such as:

  • The warmth of the sun felt different from other places
  • Traffic noise
  • The crunchiness of arancini
  • That time my daughter had forgotten her camera in a church and a nun present pointed it out to me with a smile

I could go on with my memories but I don’t want to bore you.

What I mean is that, if you think about it, it is not so much the what or the where. In my opinion it is much more important how a holiday is experienced that makes the difference.

I remember holidays in even highly emblazoned destinations where, however, the memories are clouded and, when I think about it, they are holidays or stays that have left nothing in my heart.

This, in recent years, has unwittingly led me to favour holidays based on my passions, such as walking in the woods and experiencing the mountains.

Furthermore, during my stays, I always seek sincere contact with the other people I meet. I put myself in ‘listening mode’ and so, driven by a desire to know things, I ask questions of the people I meet and really listen to what people tell me.

It may sound trivial, but if you have seen the film INTO THE WILD (if you haven’t seen it yet, I invite you to watch it) there is a sentence that struck me and that you can interpret as you see fit: ‘Happiness is only real if it is shared’. My personal interpretation is that I find true happiness in meeting and discovering my neighbour.

If you think back to your holidays you will most probably realise how important people and experiences are for ‘unplugging’ from your hectic everyday life.

This way of seeing things led me and my family to conceive Antico Borgo Brunelli.

If you haven’t read it yet, I invite you to read the article: ‘The 4 Secrets for a Perfect Weekend’. Click here to read the article.

At Antico Borgo Brunelli you will not find:

  • A restaurant
  • A wellness centre
  • And many other services of a 4-star hotel….

You will, however, find all the welcome I am capable of waiting for you to enjoy an experience that I hope you will carry in your heart.
